The Club

Chichester Goju Ryu Karate Club is a small friendly family orientated club that puts great emphasis on the strength and discipline that can be gained through Karate.

The club aims to give children an introduction to traditional karate techniques and exercises with an element of discipline in a fun and friendly environment, in order to increase self-confidence and determination through regular training and testing. Participation in competition is encouraged.

The training for adults is primarily through kata and traditional techniques in order to gain ability and confidence in self defence.

Kata and their applications form the foundation of the training. Fitness, self-motivation, spirit and determination are all goals that students are inspired to achieve.

Tests are carried out and grades awarded to those students who achieve a certain level of skill and understanding, and show regular commitment to their training.

Training Rules (Doju Kun)

Be humble, courteous and honourable.
Regulate our practice to our physical condition.
Study and practice only in earnestness.
Be composed, tranquil and alert to produce reflex thoughts and action.
Take care of our health.
Lead simple lives.
Be untiring and unceasing in our endeavours in spite of all obstacles.

The study of karate involves many aspects, an important one of which is discipline. Students are taught to respect their teacher, fellow students and themselves, to have regard for the society in which we live and to contribute in a positive way. Students learn to discipline their mind to enable them to concentrate better and to focus their mind and body.
